Selecting a Song

There were initially many songs that I had imagined I would like to choose. But there is a difference between imagining a scene and shooting a scene. I wanted to make an Wong Kar Wai-esque, 80s inspired disco pop themed music video on the song "I Wanna Be Yours" by Arctic Monkeys. The song has a dreamy, reverb-drenched dramatic guitar tones and Alex Turner's silky, velvety vocals. The song has been adapted from the poem of the same name by John Cooper Clarke. I had imagined a moody, low-lit atmosphere that would compliment the slow, hypnotic rhythm. A blend of rock and vintage cinematic, lovelorn.

But when I explored the budgeting options and the equipment that would have to be used and on top of that the hours that would have to be put in, I realized that I should do something simple, achievable and that which I can do my best at. So we started searching for songs with simpler themes and that could be achieved at our level.

Then my teammate Haaris suggested a very cute and romantic song: Blue by Yung Kai. We both loved the hazy, dreamy vibe of the song. It features soft, muted beats. The minimalist sparse drums, warm bass, lo-fi hip hop beat give it a slow-paced ambience. I loved the Surf Rock instrumental influence with the twangy guitar tones that signify the beachy vibe.
